Junior Lauren Mnayarji won the Miss IU title in February 2015. Lauren had experience as a titleholder having served as Miss Crossroads to America 2012 and Miss Southern Heartland 2013. As Miss IU, Lauren was 3rd Runner-Up at Miss Indiana and received the Arts in Action Award (top dance performance) for her talent.

Lauren was active on campus as a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and an inaugural member of Crimson Corps. She also spent many hours serving the community alongside members of Bloomington Kiwanis and the Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana.

After graduating in Spring 2016, Lauren moved to Los Angeles to explore careers related to show business and media.

Erika Burghardt was a junior when she won the title of Miss Indiana University in February 2014 at Willkie Auditorium. Although it was only her second MAO pageant, Erika drew from her year of service as the 2012 Indiana State Fair Queen.

With a passion for IU Dance Marathon, Erika used her title to encourage more high schools to host dance marathons at their schools. She dedicated herself to supporting IUDM in any way that she could, even running a 5K in her crown and sash! She also co-founded and directed Delta Chi’s Miss Greek IU pageant, beginning Miss IU’s tradition of helping contestants prepare for the annual philanthropic event.

Today Erika works at Bon-Ton Store, Inc., headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Because Terrin Thomas was crowned Miss Indiana only four months into her year of service as Miss IU, the Miss IU title was now vacant. Officers of the Miss IU student organization felt it was important to have a local titleholder engaged in campus activities throughout the year, so they offered the title to the 2013 runners-up. Mallory Essiq accepted the offer and was crowned in August 2013 at Terrin’s Miss America send-off party in the Frangipani Room at the Indiana Memorial Union.

An arts management major, Mallory used her seven months of service by performing at the annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Monroe County Courthouse and at Kiwanis events. She also played a leadership role in planning the 2014 Miss IU pageant.

Mallory currently works in Indianapolis as the Pops & Presentations Coordinator at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Sophomore Terrin Thomas won the Miss IU title in February 2013. Although it was her first time competing in a Miss Indiana local, she had previously served as Miss Duneland’s Outstanding Teen in 2009. At Miss Indiana that summer she won a preliminary interview award and the title of Miss Indiana 2013, which gave her the opportunity to compete for the MIss America title in Atlantic City that fall. A Cox Engagement Scholar who is a service learning ambassador for the campus and an intern for Bloomington Playwrights Project, Terrin is also a member of Alpha Chi Omega  sorority. Terrin is in her senior year (spring 2015), studying journalism.

Brianna McClellan was a junior when she was crowned Miss IU. A theatre major who had roles in several campus and community theatre productions, Brianna also spent her year of service collaborating with the Bloomington Kiwanis Club, serving as an ambassador for the Theatre and Drama Department, and working for IU’s Freshman Orientation program.

After graduating in 2013, Brianna joined Theatre IV on Tour. She’s currently chasing her dreams in Los Angeles, Calif.

While studying communications and psychology, senior Jaclyn Fenwick spent her year of service representing the student body at campus events, assisting the South Central Indiana Kiwanis with their local service projects, and providing holiday entertainment for the Indiana National Guard at Camp Atterbury.

Jaclyn and her husband Eric Bolin live in Brown County. She directs the USO at Camp Atterbury.

Theater major Maggie Delaney was a freshman when she began her year of service. At Miss Indiana that year she won a preliminary interview award. No stranger to pageants, In 2007 Maggie was crowned as Kansas’s Outstanding Teen in 2007. Active in Delta Gamma sorority and IU Dance Marathon, Maggie wrapped up her senior year (spring 2012) with overseas study in Italy.

Jacobs School of Music student Gabrielle Reed represented the state and Indiana University when she competed at Miss America in Las Vegas on Jan. 15, 2011.

When Gabrielle qualified for the state pageant as Miss Southern Heartland in 2010, it was not her first trip to state competion. She first competed at Miss Indiana as Miss Indiana University 2008.

Now a pediatric dental hygienist in Fishers, Ind., Lindsey was an IU student on two campuses.  She spent her first three years at IUB completing prerequisites for the dental hygiene program at IU South Bend.  In addition to her 2007 Miss IU title, Lindsey served as an Indianapolis 500 Princess in 2009.

Betsy Uschkrat, Miss IU 2006, Miss Indiana 2006

A vocal performance masters student in the Jacobs School of Music, Betsy was the first titleholder since 1969 to represent IU at Miss Indiana. After a 37-year hiatus, director Lindsay Shipps resuscitated IU’s local pageant with sponsorship from Union Board. As a student Betsy earned lead roles in multiple IU Opera Theater and performed at the Kennedy Center. She currently lives in News Orleans with her husband and fellow Jacobs School of Music alumnus Tyler Smith. Betsy balances a busy performance schedule with teaching duties at Tulane University.
