Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union will be the venue for this year’s pageant Saturday, Feb. 11. The pageant will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Seven accomplished IUB students will compete for the title of Miss Indiana University 2012, a job that requires a year of service to the IU community and the opportunity to represent the University at the Miss Indiana scholarship pageant in June.
As a preliminary to Miss America, Miss IU contestants must identify a platform — a social issue for which they advocate. Contestants will compete in five phases of competition: private interview, talent, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, evening gown and on-stage question.
Hosting the pageant on campus was the No. 1 goal of the Miss Indiana University student organization officers president Carly Garber, vice-president Allyson Kage, treasurer Chris Iacullo, Miss IU 2010 Jaclyn Fenwick and Miss IU 2009 Maggie Delaney.
IUSA Funding Board and the IU Foundation have made this goal attainable. Additionally, thanks to IUSA’s sponsorship admission will be free for students and the public.
Miss Indiana University 2012 will receive a $1,500 scholarship from the IU Foundation, plus a prize package from our community business sponsors and in-kind sponsors (a year’s Mega Membership at Total Tan, a year of personal training at Hoosier Crossfit, a competition swimsuit and a $100 gift certificate from Ashley René’s, a presentation bouquet from Mary M’s/Walnut House Flowers).
First and second runners-up will receive presentation bouquets from Mary M’s/Walnut House Flowers, plus $1,000 and $500 scholarships respectively. The South Central Indiana Kiwanis will award a $200 scholarship to recognize outstanding community service, and the contestant with the best interview score will receive a $250 scholarship.
Audience members can vote for their favorite contestant the night of the pageant: the People’s Choice Award. During intermission amily, friends and fans of each contestant can vote with their loose change and dollar bills. All funds People’s Choice donations will be used to support the Miss Indiana University organization.
