Contestants preparing for Sunday’s pageant

Final preparations are underway for the Miss Indiana University pageant, which will take place Sunday, March 27 the Bloomington Convention Center. The pageant begins at 5:30 p.m.

Admission is free for IU students who present ID. General admission is $10 for non-students, $5 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will be used to support the Miss Indiana University Organization.

Twelve young women will compete in interview, talent, swimsuit, evening gown and on-stage question. Contestants range from freshmen to seniors, from business to music and liberal arts majors. Pageant attendees will enjoy talent presentations in vocal, dance, violin, oral interpretation, and piano performances.

Two major campus organizations, Union Board, which has underwritten production costs and helped plan the event, and the IU Foundation, which is providing $3,000 in scholarships to award to the new titleholder and runners-up, are sponsoring this year’s pageant.

Kiwanis of South Central Indiana will present a special community service award and $100 scholarship to the contestant who best exemplifies Kiwanis philosophy of changing the world one community at a time.

Audience members will have the opportunity to choose the recipient of one award — the People’s Choice Award — by voting with their pocket change. Look for the People’s Choice Award table to vote for your favorite contestant.
